About Dr. Helene Brenner
Dr. Helene Brenner
Dr. Helene Brenner is a licensed psychologist, speaker and author of I Know I’m in There Somewhere: A Woman’s Guide to Finding Her Inner Voice and Living a Life of Authenticity. For more than 25 years, she has been helping women, and men as well, overcome past conditioning and begin to trust their inner selves to create the lives they truly want.
Dr. Brenner was motivated to write I Know I’m in There Somewhere when she noticed that, among the women she treated, there was a difference between the way they thought they should feel and the way they really felt inside.
Many felt chronically dissatisfied with themselves, feeling like they could never measure up to their own or society’s expectations of them, and often felt compelled to put everyone else’s wants and needs ahead of their own. Dr. Brenner wanted to write a book that would help women go from tearing themselves down, giving themselves away and boxing themselves in, to living from the wisdom and passion of their authentic selves. She also wanted to write a book that, rather than telling women to “think differently” in order to change, would honor and respect their emotions and harness the power of those emotions to create change that came from their deepest selves.
Dr. Brenner’s work integrates the latest findings from neuroscience on what creates lasting therapeutic change. In addition to her individual therapy practice in suburban Maryland, she gives speeches and conducts workshops internationally and offers one-on-one sessions through telephone and Skype as well as teleseminars and webinars. Her passion is to show people, especially women, how to “lower the volume” of all the “outside voices” that tell them what they should do and how they should feel and tune in to the wisdom of their own minds and bodies that’s available to them every moment, if they know how to listen for it.
Dr. Brenner attained her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Denver in 1990 and lives in the Maryland/Washington, D.C. area. She has been married more than 35 years to fellow therapist and writer Larry Letich, and they have two daughters.
